PEI’s Growing IT sector

IT sector in Canada

Prince Edward Island is Canada’s smallest province, but that doesn’t mean it`s still in the stone-age when it comes to technology.

Prince Edward Island’s technology sector is ever growing.

Over 3,000 people work in Prince Edward Island`s IT sector at over 60 IT companies. Some of these companies focus on either software developing, social media content, website creating or video game development.

The IT industry isn’t just people who fix computers or just make websites anymore and it’s not just in major cities anymore either.

It’s also on the smallest province in Canada.

People don’t usually think of PEI as a place for app makers but EA, a video game giant has a mobile app company in Charlottetown. Their 80 plus employees  created a Simpson mobile app game last year.

Easy PEI, is another business focused on mobile app development. They developed an app to help newcomers break down the language barrier.

But app companies don’t solely focus on mobile games. Cogsdale Corporation and Spry Point located in Charlottetown focus on apps for utility companies.

Even utility companies need to keep up with technology. More and more Island utility companies have introduced apps to their customers. Allowing Islanders to pay their bills at home.

Apps aren’t the only market of IT on the Island. A lot of companies focus on software or website development.

Invesco is one of the Island’s biggest IT employers. They create software related to investing. CGI is another big employer, with over 300 employees in Stratford. CGI creates software for businesses and helps businesses maintain that software.

Another way companies focus on website development is through social media and graphic design for businesses.

Thinking Big Information and Technology has two offices on the Island, they focus on social media and design for business. Analytic-OR has 12 employees, they offer assistance to companies by staff management and communications.

Just like how these companies work on multiple things, jobs on the Island in this sector range. You don’t have to just be a technician or developer.

There are also graphic designers, help desk jobs, tester jobs, programmer, writer, social media strategist and project manager. There are many ways a career in IT can take shape.

With the IT sector is constantly changing it creates more jobs . Our goal at Space-O Technologies is join this evolving IT sector on PEI. With a new office opening in the new year.

Islanders want a personable touch when it comes to growing there businesses. Islanders want to support local business while also working in international markets.
