Abstract of Custom Self-Storage Space App
Storgage is a custom mobile application that allows you to find a place nearby to store your physical stuff. This app is for two types of users: first, those who are looking for a place to store their stuff; second, those who have a vacant place to rent out. This app allows owners to add their house space with property title, description, location, images, and rent. In addition, owners can freeze the availability of their property when they don’t want to rent out spaces for a certain duration.
The Storgage app allows tenants to check the available property in their nearby area and make the deal. This app also allows tenants to make counter offers if it seems the rent is too high. This mobile app allows tenants to set custom alerts in a selected area to get notified when the property is available. So, anyone from the USA or Canada can download the Storgage application from Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Client’s Requirements
Our client deals in the real-estate business and he is from Los Angeles, California, USA. Being in the real-estate business, his work was to buy, sell, manage, operate, and invest in land and building.
While going through the trend in the real-estate business digitalization, he got the idea of making self-storage facilities app for the people of the USA and Canada.
When looking for an experienced mobile application design and development company, he found us on Upwork. Since we have 99% of job success on Upwork, he checked our portfolios, and developers’ experience and conducted meetings with our team. Thereafter, we collaborated to work on his project.
Solution We Developed for Our Client
Our client was clear about the requirement of this self-storage marketplace application. He gave in-depth details about the specifications and type of solution he wanted to develop. Our team conducted market research and check the references application developed on a similar concept. While going through the different applications, we noted down the most essential features to integrate into this self-storage mobile application.
According to the requirements of our client, we developed this self-storage application which allows people to utilize their unused space and earn in return. We integrated the features like custom alerts, chat, payment, add properties, set pricing, search, apply filters, and push notifications. As he wanted to make this app unique for its users, he focused on user experience and custom alerts feature for end-users. Once the application got reviewed and approved by the client, we uploaded the application to the Google Play Store and Apple Play Store.
Challenges We Faced
While making the custom self-storage app, the client wanted to make it easy to switch from tenants to owners. As this application has two different interfaces, it was difficult to
- Manage the database data of a single user in two different roles without any clashes.
- Manage the sign-in (functionality) code of a single user for two different accounts at a time.
Because we also need to ensure that the users don’t get confused while using the application. To solve this problem, we provided the easy option of switching between two different accounts within account management. In addition, it was difficult to manage the database of a single user for two different accounts.
At the nanoscale, this doesn’t seem the problem, but when there are thousands or millions of users in the application, then managing the database becomes difficult. So, designing a database that doesn’t become complex when the application scales, was challenging. Maintaining the relationships between the fields of the database was difficult. We need to ensure there should be no problem or multiple entries while the user logins into the application and switches between the different accounts.

Add Your Property for Listing
Start to rent out your property within a few minutes. The Storgage app makes it easy to add a property for renting out. Just add the details like property title, description, rent fees, location, images of the property, storage type, storage access type, storage size and date of availability.
Manage Your Property
Provides a complete listing of your properties for review. Get an option of editing and deleting a property from the dashboard. It provides complete editing of listed property details like name, address, pictures, and price.

Check the total earnings made through renting properties. Get a filter to check total earnings through weekly, monthly, and yearly.
Search Functionality in Chat
Search for a specific conversation and chat without wasting time on scrolling and finding the person in the chat dashboard.
Search and Explore Properties
Get a list of properties available with storage unit details. With the search function, find specific properties by their name or apply filters to discover properties that meet your requirements.
Chat Functionality
Connects renters with tenant owners via the chat feature. So, renters clear doubts, if any regarding the property before renting out. Saves time and gets the deals done faster without waiting hours for the call of owners.
Send Counter Offer
Send the counter offer to the owners if the prices are not suitable. Get an option to send offers to the storage unit owners through chat. Complete the deal with the mutual pricing and get storage units for rent.
Send Booking Request
To send a booking request, select how many days you want to store your personal belongings. After that, send the request to the owner of the storage place. Once the owner accepts the request of renting that storage space, you get the storage unit to place your personal belonging.
Push Notifications
Get notified when any new chat arrives in your chat dashboard or any owner approves or rejects your request of renting out the place. Even, get notified for the custom alerts you set of vacant space in your near area.
Set Custom Alerts
Set up custom alerts if physical storage places are not available in your expected area. To get notified, use the filter option and pin the location using map functionality then add the details and at the end tick mark “notify me for future availability”.
