HOWTO app allows users to upload videos from 22 different categories like cuisines, sports, and DIY. So whether the user is a sports fanatic or a cooking enthusiast, there’s something for every user on HOWTO. With this social networking app, the users can personalize the videos by adding text, filters, and music and even rotating, adjusting speed, and trimming the videos. In addition, this app offers different steps to complete the tutorial and add the items to the product catalog. Moreover, after creating a video, the user can share it within their community. The user needs to purchase a subscription to sell the products used in the tutorial. The app offers three ways to sell and showcase a product: - Directly sell on HOWTO app - Sell on the user’s website - Through discount coupons Apart from this, the sellers can manage the orders from initial acceptance to shipment. The admin gets a 10% commission when any product is sold and can manage the entire user base, content, payments, products, posts, and inspirational videos, all within a few taps. ## Client’s Requirements Our client is based in Paris, France, and has been in the digital marketing business for years. He wanted to create a simple video editing application, but as per the trends and popularity of TikTok and Instagram, he wished to provide a social touch in the application. Moreover, with the rising demand for eCommerce, our client even wanted to integrate marketplace features in the application. Thus, he looked upon building a 3-in-1 application that offers video tutorials, video editing, and eCommerce features in the application. After studying the market and performing the analysis, we validated his idea for developing this 3-in-1 mobile app. We gave him a breakdown structure to understand the work required and the potential risks. As per his requirements, we have integrated features like video creation in different categories, audio tools to insert music in videos, increase or decrease the speed of the video, filters to enhance the quality of the video, shopping cart, and order management, which provides a complete view of product sales. Since our client wants to make this app unique, he prioritizes the customer experience; thus releasing the app for the beta users to get valuable feedback. In just a few days, more than 235 users rolled in to use this app. ## Challenges We Faced Integrating video editing features was the challenge we faced. Suppose the user wanted to upload a video of 1 hour, it was difficult to - Add text, filters, transitions, and animations. - Uploading & publishing a long video took a long time. - Memory consumption was at its peak, which resulted in phone heating. Since we have experienced video-editing developers, we resolved the challenges and optimized the overall video editing application. Moreover, we even managed to integrate the trending and advanced glitch filters, metal filters with shaders, keyframe animation at certain time intervals, and sounds (reversing, reverb, change the sound).
