About Our Client and Brakes Off
Based in Arizona, USA, our client runs an aviation MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) company serving private jet owners. Every aircraft that arrived for service had to be inspected and documented, and that documentation lived entirely on paper, with each defect logged by hand during a walk-around inspection on a paper-based inspection report.
Handwriting was hard to read between shifts, photos sat apart from notes, and there was no proof of location. Space-O Canada designed and developed Brakes Off to fix this, and the cloud-based aviation maintenance software automated about 80% of the process and cut duplicated work and errors by roughly 90%.
How We Built the MRO Software
This aviation maintenance software development project was a full MRO software development engagement spanning UI/UX, a native iOS inspection app, a cloud backend, and QA. The client needed to retire the handwritten, paper-based inspection report that was slow to fill in and easy to misread.
Solution
We rebuilt the inspection form inside the aircraft inspection software, so a technician selects an aircraft, enters the order details and hours, and generates a complete on-arrival or departure inspection report digitally.
Capture Visual Data With Every Defect

The old inspection form had a single “photos taken” box, so photo capture was disconnected from the description of each fault.
Solution
We tied photos to defects, so for each issue an operator adds multiple photos with a note in the same record, and the aviation inspection app stores each image next to its description.

Defects were explained verbally at shift changes, and unclear handwriting meant the next operator often misread the problem.
Solution

Requirement
On paper, the operator collected a pilot or owner signature to authorise the work, and the client wanted that inside the app.
Solution
We added a digital signature step where the pilot or owner signs on the device to acknowledge the work, and the signed record is saved with the report.
Voice-to-Text and Offline Mode

Long notes took time to type, and hangars and remote sites lack internet, so the maintenance tracking software had to work without a connection.
Solution
We added Siri voice-to-text for dictating defect notes and an offline mode, so inspections are filled, photographed, and signed offline, then synced to the cloud once the device is back online.
GPS Verification and Searchable Records

Requirement
Paper reports carried no proof of location and were hard to retrieve, leaving the MRO provider exposed in a dispute or insurance claim.
Solution
We added GPS location stamping so each report records where it was created, and made every past inspection searchable, with one-tap export of a PDF report to share by email or SMS.
